Naija How Far?

Did you know

That I pledged to Nigeria my country
To be faithful, loyal, and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength...

But I haven't read in any text what Nigeria has pledged to me, besides the malicious dishing of gbasgbos I have been receiving

Nigeria has neither been faithful, nor loyal to me
Should I talk about the many government offices that have asked for COMPLIANCE FEE to run a legit paper processing that didn't require an extra dime besides the one paid online... Let's not go to Immigration or Road safety, Police or NNPC, POS or Iya Risi...
The honesty in Nigeria can be seen through the super POS agents the CBN sent to our aid (see the discussion here @merci_patrick ).

πŸ˜“
The strength my dear country has used to cripple progress and end the lives of many...

"If only Teachers were paid what politicians were paid and politicians had the pockets of teachers, the world would be a better place."

I watch the news of countries where people die from natural disasters and I weep for Nigeria because we are our own disaster, as natural as our black exist... We are naturally our own disaster.

As e go better don dey betray us
#naija needs an exodus
Make all of us flush commot for like 300years then start come back one by one to rediscover the land.

As eyes don red... We no dey see road again
We no dey see past the day
The only thing in sight is one day at a time
But in two weeks time this election will come
And our franchise will become fat lies
Selling to the highest bidder with the finest naira

Today we ask for the exchange rate of Naira for Naira
As funny as it seems
It is the sales of our human rights
...

Help Fight Depression Vol2

Hola beautiful minds
2022 and style second volume of our Help Fight Depression campaign is going stronger than ever.

With the world's state of economy, health and perception to life itself, we know so much is at stake if we don't grap onto the line we have right now.

Last year the them for mental health day was; Mental Health in an Unequal World. This year as more attention is shifted to the need to see people better in their respective networks, the theme for 2022 is Make Mental Health For All A Global Priority.

While we all try to contribute to mental health through our own quota, Mind and Space is asking a transformational question;
What are you struggling with right now?

This question hits differently when you hear it, especially when you need it.

With the start of the Help Fight Depression campaign Vol II.
Starting on Sept 10th (World Suicide Prevention Day) to Oct 10th (World Mental Health Day) we encourage you to join the 30 day challenge click here and the accountability group.

Last year we got to express ourselves artistically to push through mental stress, this year we come also with pockets of challenges to push through personal boundaries.

We are still collecting stories to help push this mental health advocacy
Forward pieces to mercirickcrazitivity@gmail.com
Or call 07010432700 for enquiries.

Depression is neither a curse nor a burden to carry alone.
We will help fight Depression, one mind at a time.

Kuje prison attack

The aftermath.
The sounds still raging in our minds, if this was America it would sound like the 4th of July. Only the 4th may scare pets and end up with lost dogs, this is much more.

The first sounds of gunshots at 10:18pm Tuesday night sounded like a movie, only this time we know how real movies can be. Gunshots, grenades, was it bombs?
The Kuje prisons and it's environs on Tuesday night the 5th of July 2022 had the worst heart breaking time in history.

The aftermath, even the leaves hang too mortified to be shaken. They must be dead from fear.
Choppers flying around to assess the damage. And foot soldiers doing a sweep.
Families hurdled together on the ground praying life gives them another chance to change what they can, or just to stay alive for another day. Just to breathe fine without the shakes.

We remain grateful to God and circumstance for one thing, AEDC for the first time in its existence supplied power while this occurrence went down, if not for the electricity who knows how many generators would be kept running and the entry of these unknown gunmen wouldn't have been noticed till the worst had happened.

People with health conditions, especially heart conditions are truly in need of medical attention, panic and PTSD is the mark left on people.

What we know for sure is this;
The Kuje medium correctional facility was attacked, this was a well planned operation on the path of the attackers, some prisoners fled, some prisoners were caught, some prisoners ran to safety and returned willingly at daybreak, security operatives responded, there were casualties on both sides.

Do we say thank goodness they had no intentions of attacking residential buildings? That the target was the prison and the gunshots in the streets were to cause distractions from the main target?

Let's just keep hope alive.
Omo na ground we dey through the night till daybreak, all lights off, and in total silence, hearing the sounds of machine guns, AK-47, grenades and possibly some kinda bombs shook the entire prison and it's environs; Shetuko village (behind the prison), Elrufai estate (adjacent the prison) and parts of Pasali close enough to feel the vibrations. We could hear footsteps out the window and gunshots from different corners. Mehhhhhhnnnnnn... Now we know first hand.

Naija how far?

My fellow Kuje please share your experience, that's for those wey don get themselves πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

The Toddler Approach I

Unique abilities of toddlers.
- Toddlers enjoy to be read to and they do because at that stage their minds are open to new things, now the mind of a toddler is not open to new things because it is empty but rather because it still has the ability to accept things as they are.
- Toddlers smile and laugh at things that are exciting, inciting and more so amusing to them, not because they don't know what else to do but because they recognise chemistry and have the ability to allow themselves react to it just the way they are.
- Toddlers cry when they get scared because they have the ability to react to reality. Because they have not yet fashioned the specialty of shadowing emotions.
- Toddlers want to try new things because they want to know the boundaries of these things they now feel, they want to see how limitless they are because they have the ability to accept that there is more.
- Toddlers will want you to pick them up sometimes because they want you to feel what they feel, but other times it's the other way around they want to feel what you feel and this is because they have the ability to recognise purity, just feelings, uncontaminated by worries and what if's.
- Toddlers have the ability to get mad but we don't often see that because you (the adults) more than every time train their responses in the way they (the adults) want to feel.

The toddler approach teaches you to be honest with yourself and to solve problems from the most basic point of view.

Lost Again

Slowly but truly
Fear cripples me fully
The finesse I once housed
Has flawed my thinking
Being too strong
I lost faith
Being too tough
I forced grace
Lost my senses trying to make one
So I agree
So foolish I have been chasing sanity

Always saw me to become this
But this my fears tried to bury
With sticks broken by stones
Now I feast over broken bones
These bones of my soul
Where I still never fully heal
From the crippling in my soul
I am loosing time
Cos I have been foolish again
Foolishly running mad
All for sanity's sake
Asking me questions
Those only broken hearts can take

I am done with the slow and true phase
Cos I have been slow but untrue
I don't know how to be selfish
But I have been with you
Perhaps only to me
For not owning my feels
But still
My hands ain't still enough for a drive like this
So once more I must lie to me
Drop a false face you want to see
Smile, say hi, but cry for me
I don't know how to be
Cos I left all of me
At the spot we were last seen

It really is foolish to run the risk of going mad for sanity's sake
But I be mad trying to run from sanity today, yesterday, everyday
Most fascinating line is
I can't quit making this feeble heart sink
And sing psalms unsung
But all addressed to me
So alone I be lost in this crazy
I will plant me in your dreams
But reality...
Let's leave that for another broken love story.

E fit no beta

My mind has been playing tricks on me, telling me things, giving me signs, whispering some nothings that made me feel special... I called it premonition but that's a bit to harsh for my mind even.

I saw a mass exodus of feelings,
People unmoved but their minds in pieces
They could feel, but couldn't feel feelings
It was hard to describe
So I kept quiet to the most
The few I told only said
It's just your mind playing tricks on you again
You need more sleep
More food
More rest
But the more I slept the more I worry for the truth

I needed them to listen, so I changed the approach
My mind has Been playing tricks on me
Telling me of an exodus of feelings
Of people unmoved by their feelings
But had their minds in pieces
They could feel, but couldn't feel feelings
Am sure you'll understand if it were just a story
So let's pretend it is just a story
So for a second, do you believe me?

There is a huge blanket of exhaustion on the face of the earth. A blanket of tiredness, nothingness, need for deep rest...
The feeling of total nothingness, the need to want to just leave everything behind and go somewhere that exists nowhere, the need to just be.

I know you feel it too. It's not just you, it's a blanket over things, over people, over existence and it keeps crawling in, growing, enveloping, becoming too familiar and enticing, yet scary.

A lot of people do not know this is what they're feeling because people are not speaking. But when the next person speaks, you realize you feel just the same, unique in your own ways, but all the same. Lost in your own mind.

The last year has made living and moving on difficult for the world, for reasons include the COVID 19 outbreak, the propaganda, loss of properties, jobs, lives, spread of negative vibes and emotions, and fear was the biggest and the most seen alive.

Nigeria was no exception, but felt it the worst because besides the virus, the lockdowns, the stolen palliatives by our changed system, and the powerful drop in the value of our dear naira and the paradigm on how the government want to owe workers while the market price keeps blowing and private sectors want to use employees while organisations put out request for interns so they pay a handsome 'chicken' change (while saying we are helping you, because we don't pay interns, you will gain experience), when they know you have the expertise and the organisation need you and not the other way around.
They'll introduce you in your absence as a professional but call you a person in the learning process to your face, tell partners they pay their employees handsomely but give you a hand shake and promise you exposure for a job you have done well. The biggest vile Nigerians faced the past year was the #EndSars saga.

Forget the fact that people had to play hard-guy and pretend it didn't hit them hard, plastering their walls on socials with the ### hashtags all in support of the ones who stood and fell. They saw the blood, the mockery the people in power made of the situation and the great divide. If we decide to revisit the moment, it would be bloody, the aftereffect hurts more and that is a fact we should face. Today 20/10/21 we plaster anew ### we won't forget, 1 year remembrance, Lekki toll gate.

This is the truth I have to preach again;
All of the feelings you tried to keep inside, to take in and be the hard-guy when you saw the stealing, killings, the blood, the betrayal, the sacrifice...
All the hope you built in disguise, the half baked healing you prescribed, the we go dey alright you pushed down your throat, telling your Gs the world will hear if it is televised, and we will get help in this hell of ours...
Now that you are trying to build again, telling yourself it was all in the past, they're all coming to be alive as your body has started to unconsciously give them permission to be. Those we go alright are now coming alive and your body is refusing to be alright. These feelings will overwhelm you, you will feel your head expanding and your heart breaking, you will loose appetite, hate the outside but want to leave where you are.

There is a huge blanket of exhaustion on the face of the earth. A blanket of tiredness, nothingness, need for deep rest, a great feeling of anxiety, the yearning to change something... anything, but not willing to.
I know you feel it, cos we all do. I would love to say the anthem e go beta, and add that if you haven't admitted to the feelings you won't feel it anyways, but I am sorry, you will feel it too.

Our minds have been playing tricks on us, telling us things, giving us signs, whispering some nothings that made us feel special... You called it premonition but that was a bit to harsh, even for your mind, so you rather told you you were fine and you'd be alright, but you didn't feel alright.

I know it is unfair, to say the least that you lie to yourself and say you are fine when you are absolutely not.
Would you like me to change the approach once more... nah I won't sugar coat. Know the truth, it will only get worse before it gets better, but it gets easier, starting from when you talk about it.
Hope died when you started patching your feelings with false hopes, Truth died when you started banking on e go beta, Compassion died when killings became business as usual
We all died when we denied the fact that through this means we are taking e fit no beta.

UNCHAIN THE INNOCENT

A welcomed stranger dwells amongst us.
It's been here for decades.
Even though we welcomed it with a cheering heart, the only thing it reciprocate is pain and frustration.
I see you're about to accuse and challenge this particular stranger. Hold your breath for a second, don't be in haste to judge...
Have you asked the questions? Have you made the research? Ask about those who welcome such a stranger with directions into this world. Ask about those whose negligence brought about day-to-day pain, frustration and apprehension. Ask them why they were so selfish. Ask them why they were so ignorant. Ask them why they never asked the important question. Above all, ask them why they had to bring the innocent into this world with chains on them to suffer for a lifetime...

We all have these brave strangers around us. We all see their pain.
We all see their bravery.
Born as slaves but, growing and facing everyday as warriors.
Yes! I said warriors.
For these innocent and brave beings, everyday is a battle. A battle that must be won. And after every victory, there's barely time for them to share the spoils of war. They have to go back home and prepare for another battle. That's the burden their innocent hearts have been subjected to for what might seem as an eternity...

Now the time has come when we all that exist should break the chains. Let's stop this act and art of turning blind eyes and deaf ears to pains we can avoid. Before you check feelings, why not check your genotype. If genotypes don't match, then feelings should never match.
And oh yes I hear you saying God will do it and make a way. Remember this, "Do not test your God,"  He gave us knowledge about these things so we won't have to bother him over them again. God is too busy attending to so many things than to be bothered with something he already gave solutions to...

This bridge that ushers the innocent warriors into this world has been strong in existence for decades and millenniums.
The time is now and right my people.
Spread the word around you.
Don't spare anyone the lecture.
Even most of the educated are still ignorant of this...

SPREAD THE WORD, BURN THAT BRIDGE.

KNOW YOUR GENOTYPE...

Mood Swing

On our Help Fight Depression campaign.

I am married to mood swing,
The brutal and arrogant ego of wind,
And the religion of stupidity
That thrives on the illusions of fools.

I live on wrinkles and frowns,
Joy comes as often as it goes,
It resists my grasping writhing fingers,
It forbids me lighting my wick.

When I steal a gaze at my wife,
the woman they thrust into my palm,
All I see is my miserableness
Narrated in her stretch marks.

I am married to mood swing,
The curse and soul of humanness
Death alone can do us part,
And pendulum most merciful!

My depression story and how I escaped it III

Depression crept up on me before I knew what it was. I was 13, just on the entrance to teenage life when it knocked on my door, now I wouldn't say I shouldn't have opened the door, because all the beautiful glasses that make me up today came from those broken times, I would say I wish you Don’t also have to open that door for you to find the jewels in your cupboard, I would say I wish for you a different path, but if depression has you handcuffed already then know that sometimes the darkness is the blessing we curse.
At 13 there was nothing really interesting about me, I loved painting and didn't even know what, who, where I wanted to be in life. My elder siblings were in school then, being the last born in a family of five, it was only natural to be closest to the sister who directly above me in age. Well, all hell broke loose when she left for school, no she didn't go to a school near, she left the country to study, and like my elder brother who had done that too, it meant she wasn't returning till she Finished. The irony was that I didn't even think I would feel it that much, in fact I didn't even escort her to the airport or even to our front door, I thought I was a hard guy. Omo when loneliness coupled with terrible family issues hit me, all my edges broke and was replaced by something else, something darker, something broken, constantly piercing me till I couldn't bear the pain alone so I began bleeding on everyone around. I became rude, sarcastic and withdrawn from anything like empathy.
Each day I fell deeper into the darkness, away from any close one and so I became suicidal, no I didn't want to end my life because in my religion the sin is a big one and the idea of suffering here and going over there to suffer eternally was too scary, so instead I just wanted dying. I would envisage myself being hit by a truck or falling off on a road or some other dangerous thing that could make me leave this earth. Now I think about it, those thoughts never made me happy, so I know now that I didn't really want to die. I was just tired and needed a break, I just wanted peace and light and I didn't even know how to get there.
Well, light came to me by Gods mercy, I became the poet I am today, an eloquent speaker and spoken word artist, became this lady who looks at someone's heart within their words, this lady who teaches others to give someone benefits of doubt rather than judging them. I became this lady who tries to guide others to their light, and no I am not in anyway perfect now, I still have this terrible communication skill that I believe is an aftermath of pushing others away for too long but among other things, I became the lady who believes that every skill can be developed, that every character can be changed, that everyone can be whoever they choose to be.
So hang in there whoever you are, I Don’t see you, but I guess if you are reading this then we have similar pieces, just hang in there, you would find your way soon. And no, Don’t suffer here to suffer there(hereafter) too, suicide might seem like the best option Now but it's only cause you don't see life beyond where you are at now, there's a whole lot in front of you and believe me you would find your light if not in others then in yourself and God.

Day 22: Loud It!

Loud It
How we have failed as a nation
How hunger is more distributed than wealth
How we only understand that "e go beta" na scam
and e go only beta for the people wey get beta for pocket, and sit-down for upstairs
How the I pledge to Nigeria na only talk for assembly ground
How the only way to understand the ways of our leaders is to not understand
How depression go kii you before the food wey you no get for hand
How e go be, no body know.

I know this one

Too sad to drop a line...
The line wey I wan drop self don drop me as a Nigerian... The thing chocke. 😭😭

A hero is all dressed and equiped with an arsenal of weapons...
Determined to wrestle, hustle and bustle...
But, one thing holds him down.
A capsule of negativities
Containing selfish, corrupt, cold-hearted, murderous leaders...
They gather again once more
To celebrate their dominance under the canopy of Independence
Yes! Under that canopy
They celebrate like the hero doesn't know the true story.
The true state of the state.
They tip the masses with the highest currency note in the country.
And the he watches as the masses vibe and jive to what poverty as produced
People wearing a glad face but a sorrowful face.
The highest currency in our state is not even up to 2 dollars
Yet, these terrble leaders have a reason to celebrate
Yes! They celebrate their mass acquisition of wealth.
While the citizens drown in sorrowful waters...
The hero wants to change it all
He wats to fight these monsters birthed by beasts if a corrupt and selfish mentality
But as he beckons in comrades to raise an army
He realizes on saddening fact...
The suffering comrades are also preparing to celebrate the shambolic Independence day
Along side the monsters that ridicule and tramp on their rights as citizens of a free state.
In this light
The hero drops his arsenal
As he realizes the masses are not ready for the liberation they need.
And as he turns and walks away
He looks back in last time and says...
Nobody should come at me with any Independence messages!
- Timi Norris

A general with no war to fight,
A leader with no one to lead,
A son whom had the misfortune of watching his parents burn.
Alas, the tears have at this point gone dry,
But yet we know,
although now we seem
broken, our struggle for the future remains unbroken.
- Mick Gared

I pledged to Nigeria my country
a land where brutality and agony
we tell as story

our streams are covered with the flow of blood
and our days overshadowed by persistent gunshot
our children are made orphans
and our farmlands turned into graveyards

I pledged to Nigeria my country
a land where our education
is taken as an abomination
but corruption is given a standing ovation

I pledged to Nigeria my country
a land where the labour of our hero's past is buried in the pit of its Past

Shall not be in vain
yet our tears flow in pains
our blood bleed in vain

To uphold our unity
 but parted by tribalism
and ethnicity oh! our true identity

I pledged to Nigeria my country
O Nigeria a land where buffalos
are made kings and
lions are made slaves.

No! enough is enough
I cry out in pains
though like an orphan I am
I refused this fate

This ugly heads are here
with their lies again
and am tied up in these chains
No! where are my brothers?
in their father's land
they are made slaves

Who is gonna Come for us
who is gonna save us
from these demons
who upon us,
they call down the blood rain.

No! no one
not even a single response
from the trees nor the winds

I refused, again I said no
I refused to take this fate

By day I journey under the scorching sun
and by night under the code weather
I have got to set myself free from these chains.

Yes! again I say
the labour of my fore fathers
our past heroes shall not be in vain
neither shall the blood
of my bygone brothers
waste in in vain

like an orphan
I shall put up this struggles
despite these pains
to make their departed souls
smile again
and those alive forget the pains.

So help me God
Amen.

Day 21: Know your Genotype

Day 21 of 30.
Know your Genotype wi Bamimosu Mariam Aramide (Warrior and advocate for sickle cell)
Today the 30th day of September 2021, we eventually had the talk on the topic genotype. Closing off the month of September which is the sickle cell awareness month, we had an amazing session with @itz_asabi where she gave us an expose to the making up of the strings of genotype.

Your genotype is that genetic trait that is unique to you, the traits are gotten from both parents. Onc strain from the male side and the second strain from the female side.
Whatever genotype you have is from your parents, if you are AA, AS, SS, SC or CC. All of these are gotten from your parents. Hence bringing a child into this world to carry the SS genotype is as a result of what the parents have planned for them.
These are only the major types of genotypes unique to most Africans, and the most sure that is compatible with every other type is the AA.

The sickle cell works much more than the normal kind of red blood cell, source people with the Sickle red blood cell get tired more easily. In my own explanation I would say that, the red blood cell, the normal red blood cell which is disc like is a complete circle and has about 1,000 soldiers working to keep the body in shape, working around the body to make sure that blood is distributed evenly. But in the case of the sickle cell, the red blood cell is in a sickle shape which is less than half, in fact less than a quarter of the normal disc-like red blood cell and contains about 1/10 of the soldiers the normal disc-like red blood cell would contain and this 1/10 of the soldiers I expected to do the same job the 1,000 would do.
In this situation all the soldiers in the sickle cell is required to work overtime and as fast as possible to keep the body up. So they get tired easily and when they start to feel the pain, the body of the sickle cell patient feels this pain too.

Knowing your genotype is like doing yourself a favour and the next generation too.
Lessons learnt
- Love Is not enough
- Do not tempt your God with faith
- know your genotype
- Go for multiple tests at different laboratories one test Is not enough

Day20: Overwhelming

Day 20 of 30 on our Help Fight Depression campaign.

Still marking the last three days of the sickle cell awareness month (September), we remember those struggling to stay on this side of existence, while living with this SS genotype.

OVERWHELMING

Does it rain when we cry
Does the sky turns grey when grief rings
Does the sun hides behind the gloom

How do we get broken so easily
How do we mask this pain so tormenting
How do we forge strength from this thing called weakness

How did we became so flawed
How did we became the fault in our stars
How did we became the hand that extinguish this flame

When did we grow so cold
When did the stars became so gloomy
When did we forget how to live

Sadness is a companion that clings to my shadow
Angry nights chasing naive strangers
For strange clouds besiege this existence

Listen to this silence
It’s echo overwhelming
Still as a stampede
Lifeless and serene

Let me be
I will be awake
When sanity is restored.

Day 19: What is your Genotype?

Last three days of the #sicklecellawarenessmonth on the 19th day of the 30 days Dedicated to Help Fight Depression

You will always laugh and joke about it
Till the day you watch a Warrior struggle
Till the day you are forced to feel it too.

People living with the sickle cell anemia
Are just as awesome as him or her
One outstanding factor remains
You are warriors
You are awesome
You are loved

Day 18: Again

Sometimes, your happy place is a person
or a physical place
or a state of Mind.
Sometimes your happy place is you.
So long you have that yearning to be somewhere or to feel a kind of way, then you have a picture of a happy place, you have a mental picture of your happy place.

AGAIN
My friend's mom called me
She said "Your friend is at it again"
At 32
Does he still expect me to help him count his teeth's again?
I know you would be of help
Could you drop by for some bon a petit again...
They only food he eats in this house is the crack he sniffs again
Haaa! Oloun maje
My children would not kill me oh
Even Yul Edochie in the movies wouldn't want to kill Pete again

Yo! Buddy wassup?
Your mum say you have been on it again
I hear say you don dey raise shoulder like dong bell
you no dey even greet again
You been depressible
That's why for fellowship we no dey meet again
I had to turn down the music to hear my friend talk again
He said
Maikalma "I've been battling depression for about 7days
& That' has made me weak again...
But like KANU Nwankwo I promise to be at my Peak again
I for the first time in a decade I saw the motivation speaker in my buddy speak again
Just in, a poor news broke
Another girl from Massachusetts
Just took her life again
 her suicidal note said
"Sorry friends, like a limp erection, I can't stand another heartbreak again"
One man's food is another man's poison
Naso sniper take turn viiju milk again

Just then my friend realized like by your clear life has been fair to him again
She gives us a second chance like an altar call to be born again
To you out there, trust me you not alone in this. Life is collateral
After rain comes the sun again.
Depression is suicidal
Pls Don't stand watch another take a life again.

Day16: Warriors

WARRIORS
The pains I feel in my bones
Like arrows piecing into my skin
With each tear that fall
I pray the pain could disappear
Into tin air and never appear ever.

Each pain killer I take
Feels like me taking something harmful to my body
I keep hearing this and that drugs cures
Then with all loyalty, I take
I take every drug
Just to feel better
Just to make the pain go away.

There are days I wish I was never born
Days I wish I could just die
But those days never come.
Now I stopped wishing to die
I stopped wishing I was never born
I stopped wishing for the pain to go away.

Some call it their cross to bear
But I call it my STRENGTH.

The pain I once wished could disappear each day gave me STRENGTH
Each time I'm faced with this pain
I face it like a warrior that I am
I refuse to be locked down by sickle cell

My tears, they remind me that there are days warriors shed tears too
Not as a sign of surrender, but as a sign of STRENGTH
As a sign of VICTORY
As a sign of survival

This pain made me
This pain I cherish
This pain changed me.

Gidzeey - Mary Jane, Day 13

The world celebrates World Rose day a day that has been set aside in memory of 12 years old Melinda Rose who was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. She dedicated the last moments of her life making other cancer warriors live easier while they had the time to.

The choice to fight and treat cancer isn't an easy one, and those who choose to fight, face a lot of psychological stress, physical pain and emotional trauma.

Dream On

Day 11 on our Help Fight Depression campaign
Dream on
I felt I've lost myself
Amidst the pain I felt
Drowning in despair
My life trembling in fear

Everyday I wept
Cause I felt I've left from the future that I set to build

But what I didn't know was that there was always a road
For every soul who failure try to hold
And so I wiped my face
And stoped to complain
And sort a way
To flee from the pain

Don't Give up is all I can say
Cause you felt I've lost my way
But there's always a place,
a way and a future for us all
Continue to seek
Don't break down and give up
Keep up
Dream on

My Depression Story and How I Overcame it II

Day 08 on the Help Fight Depression campaign

A brave lady shares her story helping us understand how she fell into depression from a failed relationship. Dealing with pain, worry, sadness and a broken heart. She tells us how she was able to cope and shares a message of hope.
6th, January 2021

All my life, I've never started a new year with gloomy and sad feelings. If at all I was told that my 2021 was going, to begin with, heartbreak, I would have found a way to step into it.

I've always expected heartbreak, but this one came unexpectedly. And it got me so hard that I wondered how I had been coping with it every passing month in the year.

It all happened like a dream. These words keep echoing in my ears day and night:

"My son has told us everything. I want you to understand with me, you can't marry my son because he's the only son in the family and you coming into his life won't be easy on you because the responsibilities will be much on you....."

These were the words I received that very Monday morning on a phone call from my would-be mother-in-law. Someone I've ever loved despite we never met. I respected her and hoped, and longed to meet her that she has to become my priority each time we spoke with her son. God! I kept asking, "why didn't our heart blend with her?"

As if that was not enough, the sister called too, trying to find a reason for me to walk away...

"My dear, you have to understand with us. On our side, we farm a lot and considering your condition, it won't be funny with you. We can't question God why things are happening like this or why he created you this way, but you just have to leave his life..."

I couldn't wait for her to finish up because I wanted to ask her, "is marriage in your side all about farming?" The fact that I loved Him so much and for once I've never disrespected him gave me the control over my anger towards his eldest sister, I've ever cherished too.

My new year turned out to be one of mourning. The worst of it, he couldn't stand up for me as he promised, not even to stand up for what he loves.

"Why me again?"

Thereafter, I realized why others have been walking away of which I know, but I thought he was going to be different.

Depression chipped in, at the moment my heart lost its hold. It became so dark that I hated what I loved doing. My passion became my enemy because that was what inspired him more. I became a shadow to myself.

How I'm overcoming it, is something I can't tell rather than saying is grace. But I'm much more scared to love again not because I can't be accepted by Mr right, but will his family accept me? Because I am stigmatised.

Anyways, one thing remains certain;

"With time, I will be in love again. But for now, I need to love myself first."
