Save Benue

Here we are waiting for the next strike so we can condemn the act
It all started from one farm to one household, then to one settlement
Now we are watching, waiting, but...

First came the flood
And food was gone
Now comes another one
With the crops covered in blood
First they said don't go out alone
Then the farms became a death zone
We then avoided the zones
So they brought the slaughter to our homes

For how long
The power has been shifted
From the strong to the strong
And we know not who the strong is no more
They took our young
Washed themselves in the elder's blood
Our innocence made us wrong
So in our sleep our lives were robbed

It is the emergence of a strange religion
Every activist becomes a religious
Offering blood to strange gods
But the unfortunate blood was ours
gods among men
Playing god on the innocent
But who in fact is innocent
When we all have blood in our veins

Vex! vex! We vehemently protest
We burn tires and are taken for arrest
We take arms but they ain't our best
Our cry is the juice that gives their lost souls some rest
But,... Who are the THEY?
Who are the men with faces called faceless
Who are THEY that have made our virtues less
Who are THEY that made gods men
Who are the THEY

You've just got to realize that there's no best way to console people, you just have to be there until they forget the pain n focus on how annoying your presence is, that there is consolation
That is all that is left of Benue.

Point Blank

We do not always get to the point we aim at
But that is never an excuse to stop aiming
A test in school is an assessment of how much you have learnt
Not a window to jump out of class

Like a class, life has its many turns
Many subjects we don't touch
Not because we are scared
We just do not want a multitude to offend

We try to impress the teachers
By invoking the good red marks
But sometimes the odd red pen
Ends up in our book cells

Our world today is void of unity
Because we never saw love from individuality
From the words of Simisola;
My baby say she hungry
I give am food,
I tell her I will do
Anything for you,
But a stranger say
Please I no get shoe,
I look am like this say
Who are you...
We have forgotten how to love
The way we were taught to
We need to be reminded
We need to go back to the true definition of love

I saw this canvass dated 108
And wished I was born in those days
I just stared at the daring dead paint
And wondered what created this new disguised hate

Now prayer has been mixed with technology
One mix that drains all of me
And I ask, where has sense gone
How did we forget to love...

But the craze we posses
Was mostly created from this 'nonsense'
Back then, the craze made sense
But we lifted the hate above the nonsense

We have forgotten how to love
We need to remind us
There is sense in every nonsense
Let us not pretend

Let us remember the people we were taught to be
Please remind me.

Love Where is Your Fire II

Love Where is Your Fire.

So much going wrong
Ritualists doing rounds,
Life where is your fire

Flood in Benue state
Blood in Borno state
Love where is your fire

Food away from our tables
School away from our stables
World where is your fire

Families taken by force
Ladies married to thugs
Life where is your fire

Tears in our eye
Fears in our hearts
Love where is your fire

Friends for benefit
Hands for debit
World where is your fire

Relations now forget you
Occasions now ration food
Life where is your fire

Toddlers die in their sleep
Hunger snatching dreams
Love where is your fire

Sacrifice now costs a lot
Demise now built on all cost
World where is your fire

Family now judged by tough
Insanity, now sacrificing their blood
Life where is your fire

Two kids out in the blistering cold
To see life tough before growing old
Love where is your fire

They never told me I would cry this tears
They said leaders will fight our fears
World where is your fire

For an unknown child in the dirt
From a starved Mum now his death
Life where is your fire

At night in secret prayers
We have fights in different layers
Love where is your fire

Now far centuries from olden
Our hearts still ain't golden
World where is your fire...

Life, O life Where is your fire.

Iya Alake

Brown is not just a colour
Brown is a lifestyle
Brown is an identity
Brown is Oyo.

Iya Alake,
She said the cobbler's son
Came into her room
The night before the songs
On the first full moon.

Iya Alake, Iya Alake
Many brown roofs
Where is your proof.

She said the tree in her compound
Produced many different fruits
But is now out of season
And is used as sun proof.

Iya Alake, Iya Alake
Many brown roofs
Where is your proof.

The city of Oyo
Is only for the strong
Because you must spend
This goes even for the poor.

Iya Alake, Iya Alake
Many brown roofs
Where is your proof.

Wine in its freshest taste
But none in my cup
Yet they say this is the place
Where all dreams come undone.

Iya Alake, Iya Alake
Many brown roofs
Where is your proof.

There was a storyline
Told on the day I was born
One relayed from my fatherland
But to my fate history forgot.

Iya Alake, Iya Alake
Many brown roofs
Where is your proof.

Now I can tell
That the story is true
Of the legends of Ibadan
And the many brown roofs.

Mercirick.blogspot.com - Iya Alake

Ah Iya Alake, Iya Alake
Many brown roofs
Now I see your proof.

Maybe it is the rain
Maybe it is the sun
Maybe it is the dialect
Maybe it is the culture.

Ah Iya Alake, Iya Alake
Many brown roofs
Now I see your proof.

Peace to the land
Many things we can't buy
Though high on demand
There is no supply.

Ah Iya Alake, Iya Alake
Many brown roofs
Now I see your proof.
Iya Alake, Iya Alake...

Willpower

Willpower,
A fault we didn't trace...

Connected by more strands
than we can count
But our faces never meet,
Cash over the counter
Mistakes we always repeat.

We always blame the stars
The ones fixed to our birth
Then we jinx our minds
And place mindless bets.

Why trust a government
When they'll dupe you all
Traces of madness
Forgotten on political seats.

But still like magnets
We try to deny the call
When we created the sadness
On familiar voters sheets.

Cash over self power
Police with the power
#100 road pass
My mind couldn't look past.

We fall
We always do
But rising up
That should be a sealed deal.

I still watched
I watched from the back
But make no mistake
I can take you even from a dream state.

Husband For Hire II

The husband that has been hung for hire...
Prior to this, a lot of guys I met
have opted in for hire,
But the crazy part is,
They never gave a price...

Husband For Hire II.
To my ladies,
From where we left off...
You will always want to try,
only for a guy to pass through,
leaving a stain on you
for another to come through
and do the same.

Yes, love is necessary at all points
and works of life,
but when you fall,
you will know the reason
why it is called FALL in love
and not ENTER into love.

In the end, you are starting
from ground zero.
If still at that point
you have not discovered yourself,
you will end up like the man who wrote:
“It is not you, it is me,… I
 think we need some space.”

In order to build a real
and fully healthy cake
and not a space filled sponge
that soaks and releases,…
You must be a lady every guy wants
but in the end
only the worthy one fights for.

Be the girl who knows how much changes
she wants to make in her life tomorrow,
Have enough time for yourself to develop daily,
Be the pride of yourself first.
You are a world,
A beautiful one,
when you sparkle,
the entire world will shade their eyes
only to have a clearer view of the sparkle.

My young ladies, my younger girls,
my sisters, be bold enough to discover yourself.
Husbands and boyfriends are not for sale,
do not impress your friends
and keep count on your heart breaks,
you can not buy one today to hang on your shelve
and trade for another tomorrow
and still prevent the story of:
“My former boyfriend used to…”
You would be lucky
if he understands where you are coming from
and walk away without leaving a souvenir punch,
if not so, you shall alone manage your case.
If only there was a market called
“Husbands and Boyfriends for sale”.
Or maybe, just a part-time thing like
a Husband For Hire.
Then the game would be fair.

Yours truly MerciRick

Husband For Hire I

To my Ladies;
If only there were a real life market
To go shop for husbands,
What shopping bag would you take?

To all my young ladies and younger girls,
If you are still searching for those
defining properties of yourself
to make you understand and
put a pin to your true personality,
at that phase,
you will continue to fail
as you claim to fall in love.

If you have not yet discovered
And made yourself up to standard,
how then can you find a partner
who shares same interests as you
when you have not even discovered yours.

You want a partner who will support you,
What exactly is there to be supported?
Your plans of future indecisions or
your indecisive planning
on an unsure self discovery?

Young lady, younger girls
let me ask this one question:
That position you are in life right now,
can it sustain you for another two years?
Oh, sorry let me bring it down a notch…
If you were to see to your feeding,
clothing, shelter and schooling (only if),
would you last another six months?…
Let us leave that question be for now.
If you are so comfortable
with your many tiny flaws,
how sure are you that you can stand
another human’s many tiny flaws.

My sister, Young lady, younger girls,…
Unless you have given yourself
enough reasons and resources
to exist and enjoy your alone time,
you can not accommodate a partner
who will eventually;
Invade your personal space,
Eat up your share of the ration,
Ask if you need something,
something they already
know you are yearning for.
Not share their progress with you,
Create a room called “mind your business”,
Constantly pest you about
anything and nothing,
Ask obvious questions
and ignore little details…

You will always want to try
only for a guy to pass through,
leaving a stain on you
for another to come through
and do the same...
Be a lady of class...
First, build yourself.

Husband for hire II coming soon.

Yours truly MerciRick

History Tale.

The writer's mind;

History tale.

Boys becoming men,
I ought not to faint when been called upon
to write my destiny with a pen.

I choose to die on my feet
than on my knees.

Let someone live to tell of this day
But am ready to die to make history's tale,

Cheers coming from friends is the only fence
that causes an offence to the opposite end,

Though the battle begins claiming the lives of the brave,
yet victory still remains our very sole aim.

Though we fought valiantly,
but lost those that fought angrily.

We never allowed our emotions rule
Even as our grievances grew to the full.

Friends we knew from birth,
laid beside us dead.

We fought with no going back.
even as strength failed us
But we drew strength from
our memories of pleasant past.

History will soon be a memory,
Just a memory of sadness.

Men will rise and men will fall,
History will witness it all.

History never smiles or frowns,
But the tales feels it all.

The writer's mind.

UNO RECESSION

All I seem to hear around me is Trump, Donald Trump
But there is a regressing deception that makes us put a triumphant Trump
in our everyday sentences just to sound cool and current
and mostly funny when we want to impress,
Even though most of us still thinks he is a boxer,
Just like when Mayweather stormed the network of times n punch…
The most of us still float in the real world while in our minds we fly,

Now that is recession.
When your mama tells you there is not enough for Sunday night,
Yet she gives desert packages to homeless children.
When you had dreams of flying sky hi,
But only get to realize how high the sky really is.
When you are constantly on the news,
But you are not the muse.
When a great 200 Naira no longer does the trick.
When your stories are finally told but the audience have grown cold.
When Saun and Paul are obviously referred to as two different people.
When science tells you Micheal Jackson is not really dead,
You start to wonder if they are now believers of the ‘life after death'
thing or they really have a screw loose.

Recession does not knock down doors, it knocks on doors,
Continually, even after you open up to it like an incurable fever.
That all is recession.
But many at times, the best part of recession is
when you realize the ‘uno’ in its deal,
as it affects you but you can not complain,
Because it has taught you the key to;
Management,
Contentment,
Commitment,
Love (sharing a bottle of coke)
And a lot of mints to sanitize your mind.
Some people see recession as a period of suffering,
But if we see it as some full fledged exercise,
(maybe with fangs and horns)
it might just do us some good.
Yet another change in the USA.

RAPE, THE TRUTH

They didn’t tell Simbi that uncle Ali was a bad man,

they simply warned her not to go into his room

and then she obeyed them and followed him to the backyard.

The sexuality test…

They never taught us about sex,

all they did was threaten us not to get pregnant.

They said to the girls;

Don’t go close to boys they will hurt you, they will destroy your future.

But when you sit far on the edge of the seat

or prefer to stand in class or places of worship,

the instructors see you as too clandestine or strangely holy.

To the boys;

They said leave those small girls alone

they have not even develop in certain place including their minds

and boys feel all powerful and in-charge,…

He was never told that even Sister Nkechi could be a bigger danger to him,

when she is done cleaning the house and they are home alone.

Since they said “junior leave those small girls alone”

Sister Nkechi could never be a danger in his sight.

To the single rational mind;

What they, the society forgot to tell us was

the danger of Uncle Ali and Sister Nkechi,

rather they gave us a notion that

their rooms were dangerous and not they themselves.

Now Boys get closer to boys and Girls get closer to girls

and find solace and comfort in each.

and they say the world is coming to an end.

Actually, the world came to an end the moment

the wrong teachings came from the right teachers.

The sexuality test, a fail safe or failed state?

Tell the boy and the girl,

let Simbi understand how to protect herself from Junior

and tell Junior not to overlook the signs of Sister Nkechi’s kindness

and extra hours daily duty of “let me bath you again today”.

if Simbi knew the danger of “take sweet”

every day Uncle Ali would be defeated from

changing the background to the backyard.

If only Junior and/or Simbi were taught the signs and seasons,

they would not have turned out to be our everyday

random uncle Ali and/or Sister Nkechi…

If only we tried just a little bit to lift

love higher that shame and lift trust higher than pride.

Who knows,... Sexuality test.

They told us that love was what happened between a man and a woman.

They never told us our parents could love us too.

Fail safe or failed state.

In one bit second, we rape the truth.
